Achilles is a Greek hero.

When Achilles was born his mother took him to the River Styx and held him by his heel, completely submerged, in order to make him invulnerable. His entire body became invulnerable except his heel, which his mother was holding.

Due to a prophecy, Thetis knew that if Achilles went to Troy he wold die an early death so she disguised him as a girl and sent him to the court of Lycomedes. Odysseus revealed that he was a man by laying swords and armor among women's clothes. Achilles was only interested in the armor and swords so Odysseus knew he was a male and accompanied him to Troy.

Agamemnon, leader of the Greeks, was forced to give up his war prize, Chryseis, due to a propecy and he took Briseis away from Achilles, who was his own war prize. This angered Achilles and he refused to fight for the Greeks anymore.

Without Achilles, the war went badly so they offered Achilles several bribes so that he would fight again. He refused but allowed his friend Patroclus to fight with his armor. Hector, a Trojan hero, killed Patroclus, thinking he was Achilles.

Thetis gave Achilles new armor and he fought and killed Hector as revenge for killing Patroclus. Achilles refused to give the body a proper burial until Hector's father begged Achilles and he finally allowed him to take the body away.

Paris, with the help of Apollo, shot an arrow into Achilles' heel which ended up killing him. Achilles' armor was to be given to the bravest of the Greek warriors. Odysseus and Ajax made a speech on why they deserved the armor. Odysseus won and Ajax committed suicide.
